How to make the perfect Cosmopolitan

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

A light, fruity martini that played a starring role in Sex and the City in the 1990s, we are big fans of this pretty pink cocktail. We were surprised by how much the recipes out there varied, given that there’s only four ingredients to play with. As you’d expect, the quantities of each ingredient do make a big difference in the eventual taste. Some were too sweet, some were too sour, and one was just right.

Our perfect version came close to the IBA’s recipe, although we prefer not to use citron vodka, which many of the modern recipes include. We tried a number of different vodkas including Grey Goose and Ketel One Citron, however we found that our trusty Russian Standard made for the cleanest flavour of the final drink.

To make one serving, you will need:

  • Cocktail shaker

  • Martini glass

  • Generous handful of ice

  • 40ml Russian Standard vodka

  • 15ml Cointreau

  • 15ml cranberry juice

  • 15ml fresh lime juice

  • A slice of lemon peel, for garnish (optional)

Combine the ice, vodka, Cointreau, cranberry and lime juice and shake together for 20-30 seconds. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with the lemon peel.

Stay salty af,

Anika & Fleurie
